Hi, Iām ANDREW SLIWA.
I grew up in Upstate New York where my love for all things horticulture began, from growing my own vegetable garden, playing golf, and exploring the outdoors.
I became a highly competitive junior golfer and was ranked top 10 in New York State. Also, as a teenager I grew the largest sunflower in the county!
I graduated Cornell University in 2006 with degree in Plant Science and continued to play golf throughout and held the title of Captain of the Golf team my senior year. My career started by working for Sleepy Hollow Country Club, in Tarrytown as the Assistant Grounds Superintendent (meaning I took care of the 300 acres of golf, tennis, and equestrian facilities. And oftentimes watched the sunsets on the iconic 16th green, pictured left). It was after this, that I began working for a landscape design company in New York City, focusing on exterior landscaping for commercial properties such as Brookfield Place.
My passion is for all urban green spaces and using my background in research to push the boundaries in design. After 15 years of collaborating with NYC property managers, managing crews, budgets, and navigating a pandemic- My focus has shifted to design and maintenance consultation.
In my personal life, I live in Larchmont, NY with my wife, Yena Jung of By Yena Designs with our 2 young children Joey and Ryan and dog Georgie. Our backyard is full of color and it is where I am able to experiment with new plant combinations and varieties. It is where I find my most peace and inspiration.
