Backyard Restoration

This project had great bones, and the previous owners were avid gardeners when they were younger. However, when they sold the house the garden hadn’t been touched in years. It was a full renovation and re-design.

Clean Slate

Mature spruce, cherry and juniper trees all needed to be removed, as well as 2 truckloads of invasive english ivy which covered half of the yard. Upon removal we knew we had an incredible canvas to begin creating a masterpiece.

This project was completed in phases. After cleanup and tree removals tulip bulbs were planted that fall and made for a great display the following spring.

Plants

After all the English Ivy was removed curved planting beds were created around the perimeter. The only tree that was left on the property was the Kousa Dogwood. The goal with plant selection on this project was to have visual interest and ecological benefits throughout the 4 seasons.

Native berry producing shrubs as well as high nectar producing herbaceous perennials were used. Hakonechloa ‘All Gold’ was selected to brighten up a dark area and also provide erosion control on the steep slope.
